Essay Contest

            These projects relate

            economic theory to the

            "real world."

The first project opportunity is the Around the World Project. Students select a country to research. Information is gathered about the economic and political systems, major resources and industry, currency, major trading partners and goods, etc. Students are challenged to be creative in the application of economic concepts and are required to present their findings in a creative manner.

For a completely different approach, students can enter an Essay Contest called "Hot Topics in the News." Students have a chance to substitute the first project with an alternative assignment. Students can choose to research and write an essay on a current economic topic. Students who choose this alternative must submit an essay that conforms to the essay contest sponsored by the Federal Reserve. The rules for entering this contest can be found at Fed Essay Contest Rules. Students who receive an 80% or better on this assignment can correct any mistakes marked and enter the contest. Submission of an essay in the contest can earn students 20 extra credit points. Please note, that this is the last of only three extra credit opportunities offered during the semester.
