NOTE TO STUDENTS (AND PARENTS): Welcome to the wonderful world of Personal Finance. This course is currently an elective that may become required for graduation in the future. You (your student) have wisely chosen to take a course that provides information that will definitely be needed in the future. There are several things students can do to insure success in this course and in the future:

Read the assigned material. Personal Finance includes many ideas and concepts that are new to students. Being familiar with the material before I discuss it in class will help students understand it better. There is no textbook for this course, but students should still expect to receive frequent handouts to read and comprehend.

Take notes in class. I purposely emphasize the material that I consider most important. This emphasis provides a good indication of what will be on the test. Taking notes in class helps students learn the material and assists in determining what to study for tests.

Make doing homework a learning process. I carefully and deliberately select material that I want students to complete for homework. Accurately completing homework in a timely manner helps students prepare for tests.

Come for tutoring when extra help is needed. Personal Finance is a cumulative subject. Topics we cover in the first few chapters are used throughout the semester. It is essential that students get tutoring early to avoid being left behind.

Following these suggestions will make this semester more enjoyable and more successful (for both students and parents). I look forward to watching you master the important subject of Personal Finance.
